On May 29th 2007 I got up at 6:30am in the morning to get my hunting things around by 6:45am I was on my way out to the blind. The sun was still coming up when I got to my blind. After sitting for only an hour and half and using my diaphragm call I heard the first gobble, then after hearing that the bird was at my decoy within a minutes. I watched him strut around my hen decoy for about 5 minutes. I lifted my 12 gauge shot gun to my shoulder and fired! After I stopped shaking I looked out and saw him on the ground I fired at him again just to be sure the he was finished. I was so excited that I had called in my own bird. I went and retrieved my first bird. It was a beauty! When I got back to the house I measured him up he was a huge 19.5 lbs. with a 9 1/4” gird, and 1 ¼” Spurs. Afterwards I went to Jay’s Sporting Goods and bought a tail & bird mount kit. RJ Meyers from the trophy room helped me piece my trophy bird’s tail together.
My first turkey hunt will be one that I never forget.
