I start out the show this week talking about my renewed interest in deer hunting. I realized I need to put all the politics, infighting and shaming behind me and just go hunt deer. It feels great. Then we hear the story of a UP deer hunter who had a very close encounter with a pack of wolves. Dave Gould of the Clare School System is up next with details on their “4th Grade Deer Camp” designed to get kids involved in the outdoors and promote the concept of stewardship. The hour wraps up with Larry Verbowski from Suspension Maxx. Larry talks about their products to lift and level todays trucks for sportsmen.

The second hour kicks off with retired Coastguardsman, Charter Captain and avid outdoorsman Joe Marion. Joe talks about staying safe in the outdoors, especially for late season open water hunters and anglers. We also discuss the dangers of becoming complacent on the ice. Ian Fitzgerald from MUCC is up next. Ian has an update on the status of proposed commercial fishing legislation.

We’re talking whitefish at the top of the second hour this week with Ed Beckley of the M65 Bait Shop. Ed says the firearm season is a great time to target the tasty fish off Great Lakes pierheads, and he has great advice on how to catch them. Emily Sewell from the Michigan DNR is up next. The Wildlife Specialist talk about TB in our deer herd and how hunters can get their whitetail tested for the disease. This week’s “Ask Avery” segment deals with a couple of questions, including the use of “Drop Shotting” on the Detroit River and also whether you can tag deer found dead from injury or accident.
